Ruyi Bridge

Ruyi Bridge is located at Tianfu 2nd Street to the south of CR Phoenix City residential area near the Jian’nan Road intersection, High-tech Zone, Chengdu.

The design concept of Ruyi Bridge is named the Sound of Panpipes, as the facade design is inspired by the Chinese Panpipes, a traditional Chinese musical instrument. The undulations and fluttering of the bridge body simulate the fresh and elegant flow of music rhythm, shaping a functional urban sculpture.

Viewed from above, the bridge resembles a Ruyi embedded in the city. Ruyi is a Chinese traditional S-shaped ornamental object usually made of jade. Ruyi formerly symbolizes good luck, so a bridge of this shape contains the meaning of everything going smoothly with good fortune.

Ruyi bridge connects Dayuan Park on the south side as well as the urban space and green landscape on the north side. In this case, the pedestrian and bicycle lanes can be connected and continued.

Crossing Tianfu 2nd Street, the main bridge faces the greenway of Dayuan Central Park. To facilitate the pedestrian crossing, both sidewalks disposed spiral stairways with inclination 1:4 to 1:12. Moreover, two bicycle ramps are installed with inclination 1:12 at the ends of the main bridge to connect the greenways on both sides of the street.

The bridge is 331m in length with a design plane of "Ruyi" shape. The part of Tianfu 2nd Street is prefabricated steel box girder with equal cross section, which is 42m long. The two spiral ramps are made of reinforced concrete continuous hollow slabs, 76m long and 42m long respectively. The clearance width of the bridge is 2.36m to 9.23m, and two streamlined seats are set at the two intersection points. The bridge has become a web celebrity scenic spot for residents' life, exercise and recreation.

In May 2016, this bridge was subordinated to the Major Landscape Improvement Project of Chengdu High-tech Zone and was reported by some of media. The project was completed in February 2018. Since then, ArchDaily, ABBS, gooood, and some professional architecture media published articles of Ruyi Bridge. It was named RTW Gap Sabbatical Trip Inspiration Travel Destinations, The Most Stunning and Modern Pedestrian Bridges Across the World, 10 of the World’s Coolest Pedestrian Bridges, The Most Amazing Bridges Around the World. In November, 2020, Ruyi Bridge received a Copper Award inSpace Creativity (Professional Group) during the Golden Panda Tianfu Creative Design Awards.
